- In Dune Awakening, water is the crucial currency needed for you to survive in the deserts of Arrakis.
- You can obtain water through various ways including sucking dew from saplings, extracting and purifying blood and even setting up Windtraps.
- Lastly, you should wear your Stillsuit whenever you leave your base and have a Literjon for water on the go.
Arrakis in Dune Awakening is true to the source material in a lot of ways, one of them being the harsh conditions of the arid desert. With heaps of sand everywhere and a searing sun beaming on top of players, surviving in these conditions can often boil down to the amount of water in your reserves. You’ll need a steady supply of this essential resource to do pretty much anything in the game. Water is important in every department, from exploration to crafting, and it won’t take long for you to realize that it’s a resource you can never have enough of. With this in mind, we’ve put together a guide on the best ways to get water in Dune Awakening.
1. Harvesting Dew from Saplings
Sucking on saplings is the first method of obtaining water that you’re introduced to in Dune Awakening. It’s a desperate and unsustainable way to keep your hydration meter in check, but it’s really the only option players have in the early game. However, you can start using these saplings to farm water, thanks to the Dew Reaper tool.

You’ll obtain this Fremen device by progressing the main story quests, and you can also purchase it from a vendor at a tradepost or settlement. Once you have it, memorize the locations of saplings and visit them after midnight. The timing is crucial since you’ll get more water per plant if you harvest dew once it gets dark.
You’ll need containers known as Literjons to store this water, and thankfully, you can craft this item pretty early on as well. Rinse and repeat this process, and you’ll amass a solid water reserve in no time. Thanks to the Literjons, you’ll also always have a portable source of rehydration.
2. Extracting and Purifying Blood
Players are introduced to blood extracting and purifying during the game’s first two hours. The drill is simple – Kill enemies and collect blood from their corpses using a Blood Extractor. Return the collected blood to your base and deposit it into the Blood Purifier station.
Wait until the blood is purified to obtain water. This is a decent method of getting water during the early to mid-game, but its limitations become clear as your water requirements grow.

For starters, the blood purification process can take a while, which can briefly halt your progress. On top of this, the blood sacs that store collected blood can really begin to weigh down your inventory. As an alternative to this, we recommend crafting a Fremen Deathstill as soon as possible. You’ll gain access to the station as part of the main story, and once you do, water production becomes slightly more convenient.
With the Deathstill installed, you only need to lug a corpse back to your base and place it inside the Fremen device. Through the process of exsanguination, the device will drain the corpse of all its blood and pump out tons of water for you to use. Until you get the Deathstill, make sure to upgrade your Blood Purifiers to maintain a steady stream of water supply.
3. Setting Up Windtraps
Windtraps are an excellent source of automatic water production. These devices convert the moisture from the wind into water, allowing you to gather the resource passively. To unlock this item, you must acquire its schematics from the research menu for 100 Intel points. After gathering the crafting items required, build a Windtrap outside your base and a Survival Fabricator station inside it.

A Windtrap passively collects water until the Filter installed inside it reaches its maximum limit. The Survival Fabricator is used to craft these Filters, so you’ll need to insert fresh Filters into Windtraps from time to time. That sums up all the intervention required from players throughout the whole process. And with a network of Windtraps, you’ll never run short on water reserves again.
Outside of these methods, we also suggest wearing a Stillsuit whenever you leave your base. While the armor isn’t a mass water production tool, it’ll turn your sweat into usable water, which is enough to keep you hydrated during long expeditions away from your base.
